Welcome to 2018!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many people either don\u2019t understand or often underestimate the&nbsp;impact of Scent.&nbsp; A favorable&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/basics\/scent\">scent<\/a>, like&nbsp;Fresh, goes a long way to good mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cWant to boost your mood or stir up old&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/basics\/memory\">memories<\/a>? Try using&nbsp;your nose\u201d recommends Psychology Today in their blog, \u201cThe Power of Scent\u201d.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>What we do know is that any fragrance&nbsp;can evoke positive or negative&nbsp;psychological states. Research has proven that Scent creates or amplify moods and even evoke memories. A \u201cFresh Start\u201d is to begin with a new and clean beginning, which is why FRESH is our first Scent Narrative of the New Year!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"fresh-is-the-scent-of-the-year\">FRESH IS THE SCENT OF THE YEAR<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Recent studies (quoted in earlier Scent Narrative\u2019s), have shown that there was a swing in the last two years to more Fresh Scents. &nbsp;The Fresh fragrance family captures the scents of fresh-cut grass, citrus or the aromas of water notes such as the Scent of charged wet air after a thunderstorm or the scent of warm aquatic sea breeze in the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The memories of happiness it evokes creates joy in the moment. The fact the trend is towards Fresh makes some behaviors potentially predictable.&nbsp; It even has begun to define a group of people by its very nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"here-comes-the-freshies\">HERE COMES THE \u201cFRESHIES\u201d!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you go to Instagram, you\u2019ll see there\u2019s a whole category called \u201c<em>Freshies<\/em>\u201d. The profile is of a young millennial woman whose an achiever with \u201ca stressful job and a calendar full of SoulCycle\u2122 classes\u201d.&nbsp; She rejects the \u201csuper-heady fragrances\u201d of Boomers or Grandma\u2019s \u201cPowdery Scent\u201d. &nbsp;She has matured beyond the \u201cfruity body mists smelling like her high school BFF\u201d. &nbsp;<em>Freshie<\/em>s prefer the lean and clean Scents that are citrusy, light, airy, and, obviously, fresh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"fresh-means-natural\">FRESH MEANS NATURAL<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Given the multiple meanings of&nbsp;<em>Fresh<\/em>, it\u2019s a term that might be interpreted differently according to culture, language, context, age, and experience. First, let\u2019s clarify what we mean by \u201cfresh.\u201d It\u2019s the refreshing and natural scents that occur naturally in nature.&nbsp; A fresh fragrance is considered invigorating, nature inspired, reminiscent of early morning air or sea breeze. It is typified by green or citrus notes<a href=\"#_edn1\" name=\"_ednref1\">[i]<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The interpretation of&nbsp;<em>fresh<\/em>&nbsp;in the Scent industry is as synonym of&nbsp;<em>cool<\/em>&nbsp;and antonym of&nbsp;<em>warm<\/em>.&nbsp; This&nbsp;suggests that the psychological dimension might be associated with temperature. Thus,&nbsp;<em>cool<\/em> <em>fresh Scent, <\/em>would correspond to scents typically encountered in the cool season, while&nbsp;<em>warm fresh Scent<\/em>&nbsp;would be evoked by odors found in nature during summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"what-is-fresh-scent-in-perfumery\">WHAT IS FRESH SCENT IN PERFUMERY?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sensory ratings on a scale of freshness are difficult to obtain, as the fresh dimension of olfactory perception is not well researched.&nbsp; Yet. Psychophysical studies aimed at quantifying the relationship between Fresh and Tenacity are still being studied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sensory maps of scents are investigated in In Zarzo\u2019s breakthrough work,&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3574685\/\">Perceptual Freshness Correlated with Substantivity<\/a>, attempting to further understand the psychological aspects involved in the perception of refreshing Scent character.&nbsp; The main target of his work is to study the correlation between Fresh and substantivity. The relationship is well established in perfumery.&nbsp; At descriptive level as the industry\u2019s definition of Fresh is as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cThe parameter that measures the lasting property of a material when applied on the skin is called <em>substantivity<\/em> or <em>tenacity<\/em>. It is well known by perfumers that citrus and green notes are perceived as fresh and they tend to evaporate quickly\u2026In this work, it was found that the correlation between fresh odor character and odorant substantivity is quite strong (<em>r<\/em>&nbsp;= \u22120.85). \u2018Fresh\u2019 is sometimes interpreted in perfumery as \u2018cool\u2019 and the opposite of \u2018warm\u2019. This hypothesis is rather simplistic but it may provide a new insight to better understand the perceptual space of scents.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/?term=Zarzo%20M%5BAuthor%5D&amp;cauthor=true&amp;cauthor_uid=23275083\">Manuel Zarzo<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"fresh-is-something-new-for-the-industry\">FRESH IS SOMETHING NEW FOR THE INDUSTRY<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Fresh is a whole new science for Scent.&nbsp; In \u201c<em>The Art of Scent<\/em>\u201d, fragrance expert&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chandlerburr.com\/\">Chandler Burr<\/a> says that \u201cFresh\u201d is more conceptual than actual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cIt\u2019s pure luminescence, or light turned somehow into scent. &nbsp;New materials, including some terrific fragrance molecules, have allowed scent artists to create them\u2026Clean scents allow women to communicate themselves in a sharper, more clearly defined way than classical fragrances.\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chandlerburr.com\/\">Chandler Burr<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"fresh-peak-performance\"><strong>FRESH = PEAK PERFORMANCE<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/experts\/christopher-bergland\">Christopher Bergland<\/a><strong> author of <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/blog\/the-athletes-way\">The Athlete&#8217;s Way<\/a>, has found a link between Fresh and the Mindset of Peak Performance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cI first discovered the link between olfaction and athletic performance when I started running as a teenager in the early 1980s. Scents like newly-cut grass, citrus can all make you more joyful.<\/strong> Last month, HuffPost (Dec 06, 2017) offered \u201c<strong><em>11 Scents That Can Do Wonders For Your Well-Being<\/em><\/strong>\u201d, that offered these insights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cScent researchers found that a chemical released by a newly-mowed lawn can make people feel&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/science\/6094786\/Feeling-stressed-Then-go-mow-the-lawn-claims-research.html\">joyful and relaxed<\/a>. The aroma may also&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/science\/6094786\/Feeling-stressed-Then-go-mow-the-lawn-claims-research.html\">prevent mental decline as you grow older<\/a>.\u201d<\/p><p><strong>\u201c<\/strong>Scents like lemon and orange are not only well-known for their Vitamin C properties, but simply sniffing the fruit can help&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.marieclaire.com\/health-fitness\/advice\/smell-citrus-lemon-for-energy#slide-7\">boost energy and alertness<\/a>.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"happy-new-year\">HAPPY NEW YEAR!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Fresh Scents can elevate your mood in any given situation.
